11ft Gator has nothing on Kaedyn

Sorry for the lack of updates, but not much going on.
Home is wonderful, but short lived. We are trying to enjoy this normalcy. It is hard when I know what is coming for my sweet boy.
On Saturday we visited our friends new house guest. Kaedyn loved seeing them tire out an 11 foot Gator so he could sit on him for a photo opp. Kaedyn is so brave he sat right down on him without any sense of fear. The Gator was growling and hissing but Kaedyn just carried on a normal conversation like it was nothing. He is going to be something to really watch out for some day. This boy is just to brave!
We had a check up today with a chemo infusion. All looked well with his blood work. We were seen by the Transplant Team’s PA. She is amazing. I so wish we didn’t have to see that team. However, we are in excellent hands and Kaedyn really can and will do this.
I thought it was pretty funny today to show the transplant Dr. the picture of Kaedyn on top of the Gator. She said “that’s dead right?” Then she asked Kaedyn if the gator scared him and he said no! But he tried to take out Al and Frank and hit Frank with his tail, says Kaedyn.
Still don’t have a match for sure, but several have agreed and are being tested. We should know very soon.
On Thursday Kaedyn is admitted for a spinal tap with chemo and high dose Methotrexate. This horrible medicine will run for 24 hours.
The boo boo on his back looks good and is healing slowly. He tested positive for VRE in his stool which means it is in his stomach. This nasty little bug can travel to his blood quickly so we have to be very careful when his counts are low. The part that stinks most is when you have this you are stuck in your room until you clear it. We learned today that many patients don’t clear it till after treatment ends. I know that Kaedyn is going to be in the hospital for a long time and its unhealthy for him to be cooped up for weeks. They are going to have to let him go outside for walks or it will drive us all crazy!!!
Please pray he gets rid of the VRE and handles the chemo without side effects.

  1. I continue to pray for Kaedyn and the entire family. I ask our Lord to provide a donor as soon as possible. The little fellow sure looks great on that gator. I hope they will allow him to go out for a walk when possible. It can’t be good for either one of you to be restricted to the room all of the time.

I think I could handle anything that happened to me, but I would probably lose it if it were my wife, our 6 adult children or our 14 grandchildren.

God bless you my dear sister in Christ and may He provide you the energy, strength, and will to endure all of what is going on. Please feel free to e-mail me any time for support and encouragment.

Wow, what fantastic pics ! Yes, Kaedyn is so brave in so many ways. I know it is good in some ways to be home, but yet what is ahead is tiring to think about. I continue to pray daily for each of you, that there are no complications, and praying VRE gets gone quickly, and with rheumatoid arthritis I am familiar with Methotrexate. But his will be like you said in such huge doses. It does sound like you have a good medical team for sure. I am with you each step of the way. Without being physically able to work, I wondered what in the world will I do. I have always been so active, now in a wheelchair, cancer, and other disabilities, and now I know. I will pray. Full-time intercession. I know I can do that, and the Lord is here listening to your prayers, and each of our prayers. We are believing, and I know you all are such troopers. That will be so good for him to to get outside some and to take walks/and just get out of the cooped up space for sure. I love you all as family. Knowing there will be a day when this is over, healing has come, and the transplant is working so well, and healing comes to Kaedyn. Love, Martha Smith Psalm 138:8 The Lord is perfecting those things which concern you.

    • Martha thank you so much! That is so sweet of you. I know when I’m feeling down I can look on his pages and find strength from wonderful people like yourself.
May God bless you as well with strength and healing.
      Love,
      Shelsie
