Thursday 7/25 was a wonderful day. It was my birthday, so my sister and the wonderful staff at Mojo’s set up an outside dining section for family and friends to celebrate. Kaedyn was running (his run), laughing and enjoying the time with his friend Mally. There is nothing better than seeing Kaedyn get healthier and feel better. That’s the best present I could ever ask for.
We started a new project thanks to our amazing Gator friends. A documentary of Kaedyn’s life is in the works. They hope to raise a good chunk of money which I plan to donate all proceeds to Transplant Housing in Gainesville. There is presently no Transplant Housing for bone marrow transplant patients, but I hope to help get it up and running this year.
Our amazing Doctor E. at Shands is busy doing many transplants now. She is in my eyes the best and has a wonderful success rate. She is super cautious with her kids and that probably is part of her success. She and the team just starting doing a new type transplant done only in a few hospitals in America. It’s for children who have no other option at a cure, as some say a “Hail Mary.” Unfortunately, some of these kids are coming from far away and she has nowhere to place them when they are ready to leave the hospital. They may be able to leave the hospital, but aren’t healthy enough to be hours away from her care. I am so excited to be apart of this. This means she can help more patients, and save more children’s lives. Also families won’t have to be separated during this process.
I will let you know more details as this is the most exciting thing I’ve ever been apart of. Please pray for the success of this endeavor so other families have one less burden to bear. He’s headed to the beach today which is day +132 after given permission from Dr. E.
